Position size calculator
How many lots, so that if your stop-loss is hit you lose only what you planned to.
How it works
Lots = (balance × risk %) ÷ (stop-loss in pips × value of one pip on one lot). We round down to 0.01 lots, the smallest step most brokers allow, so you never risk more than you chose.
Check the pip value with your broker
The value of one pip on one lot depends on the instrument and your broker. On many accounts it's about 10 in the account currency for pairs quoted in that currency, but gold, indices, crypto and other pairs are sized differently. Look up the contract size in your broker's specification before you rely on this.
What it leaves out
Spread, commission and slippage come on top. A stop can also fill worse than its price when the market gaps.
